HUGO-I

Robotics Arm Platform — Working Prototype — 2026

A robotics-arm platform focused on programmable manipulation, embedded control, perception, and automation. Designed for education, prototyping, laboratory automation, light industrial workflows, and research applications. A working prototype is currently operational.

Working Prototype Last updated: 2026
The Problem

Programmable manipulation accessible to researchers, educators, and engineers.

Robotics arms with real capability — meaningful degrees of freedom, reliable embedded control, and a practical software interface — are either prohibitively expensive, proprietary ecosystems that lock out customisation, or research-grade systems that require specialist knowledge to operate. The gap between hobby servos and industrial arms is where most practical work actually needs to happen.

HUGO-I is designed to fill that gap: a capable, programmable robotics arm that can be used for education, research prototyping, laboratory automation, and light industrial workflows without requiring either a large budget or deep robotics expertise to get started.

A working prototype exists. The current prototype is operational and demonstrates the core manipulation and control capabilities. Demonstrations are available on request to verified organisations and researchers.

Specifications Note

Specifications including degrees of freedom, payload capacity, reach, precision, repeatability, and speed are not published on this page. We will add verified specifications once they have been formally measured and documented. We do not publish estimated or target specifications as if they were measured values.

System Design

Mechanical design, control, sensing, and software — integrated.

HUGO-I is designed as a layered system. Each layer is developed and validated independently before integration.

Layer 01
Mechanical Structure
Arm linkage, joint design, and structural frame. Designed for the degrees of freedom required by target application domains.
Layer 02
Actuation & Drive
Servo and motor selection, power electronics, and drive control for each joint axis.
Layer 03
Embedded Control
Onboard embedded controller managing joint coordination, trajectory execution, and safety limits.
Layer 04
Software Interface
Programming interface for defining movements, sequences, and automation workflows. Designed for accessibility to non-robotics-specialist users.
Applications

What HUGO-I is designed for.

HUGO-I is not designed for heavy industrial automation or extreme-precision manufacturing. It is designed for the large space between hobby robotics and industrial systems — where real work happens but capability is currently inaccessible.

Education — robotics and automation curriculum with a real, programmable system
Research prototyping — rapid physical prototyping of manipulation sequences and automation concepts
Laboratory automation — repetitive laboratory tasks requiring consistent, programmable movement
Light industrial workflows — pick-and-place, sorting, and assembly in low-volume settings
AI and perception research — physical platform for computer vision and manipulation research
